Saccharomat V Sugar polarimeter

A fully automatic working sugar polarimeter

Thanks to its globally unique quartz-wedge technology, the Saccharomat V is a fully automatic compensated sugar polarimeter. The working principle with quartz wedges is unique and unrivalled in accuracy until today. This polarimeter requires no recalibration and ensures reliable, consistent results over its entire product lifetime.

Quartz exhibits optical rotatory dispersion (ORD) nearly identical to that of sucrose solutions. SCHMIDT + HAENSCH’s Saccharomat takes advantage of this property by using a quartz wedge as a unique compensation mechanism.

Easy to use

Since quartz and the sample react identically to small wavelength shifts, the system automatically compensates, making the effect irrelevant. This guarantees long-term, stable, high-precision measuring results without the need for recalibration throughout the instrument’s lifetime. A key advantage is that dark samples with high absorption can be measured at the NIR wavelength (882.6 nm) after proper filtration (e.g., using the “AutoFilt Z” unit), eliminating the need for additional clarification.

To measure Pol and Brix values simultaneously, the Saccharomat can be directly coupled with the refractometer measuring head to form a Purity Analyser. This setup is cost-effective, as it eliminates the need for a separate electronic unit for the refractometer.

Applications

The Saccharomat V is primarily used in the sugar industry and during sugar harvests, making it particularly relevant for agricultural applications. It provides highly reliable analysis of sugar purity and dark molasses.
