The versatile instrument for temperature-dependent differentiation of carbon in solids
The determination of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) in solids has recently become ever more important. Not only for waste evaluation, but also for assessing soils.
The new soli TOC cube, a TOC analyzer, allows to measure not only total organic and inorganic carbon, but also residual oxidizable carbon (ROC).
In addition to the traditional TOC determination using direct and subtraction acidification methods, it also offers temperature programming, which eliminates the need for sample preparation or acids
Unmatched analytical performance
In temperature programming, achieving a precise and adjustable temperature is essential for reproducible measurements. In the soli TOC cube, the temperature is measured directly at the crucible. This eliminates potential thermal interferences. Furthermore, the inclusion of a post-combustion catalyst guarantees the complete oxidation of high carbon-content samples, ensuring consistently high measurement quality.
Simplified sample preparation
With the soli TOC cube, larger samples, on the order of grams, can be reliably analyzed. Simply weigh the solid samples into reusable crucibles, place them on the autosampler, and start the sequence. This makes the soli TOC cube an ideal instrument for the precise analysis of inhomogeneous samples. Measuring TOC according to DIN 15936 is remarkably simple. Samples are acidified directly in the ceramic crucible, dried, and then delivered directly to the instrument. It’s a simple, fast, and reliable process.
Reliable analysis
The software allows for the use of predefined methods as well as custom programming for heating rates and hold times. Peak integration is carried out automatically but can be manually checked. This ensures that even the most challenging analyses provide precise measurements of each individual component.
Unsurpassed flexibility
The soli TOC cube can differentiate between various forms of carbon using either temperature programming or a combination of temperature programming with gas switching. In one single program, it can determine TOC, ROC, and. Alternatively, the classical method of acidification, drying, and TOC measurement at a constant temperature is also possible.
Measuring method:
The soli TOC cube features true temperature ramping in an oxygenated atmosphere up to 900°C for the determination of TOC, ROC, and TIC in solids, in compliance with DIN 19539. It also offers alternative gas switching to combine oxidizing and non-oxidizing carrier gases in one single course, separating ROC and TIC. Isothermal catalytic combustion is available for TOC determination in solids in compliance with EN 15936. An optional feature for simultaneous TN determination with ECD is also available.
Specifications of the TOC analyzer:
Large concentration range
From a few ppm up to 100% or 50 mg carbon and 20 mg (0–15%) nitrogen absolute.
Easy sample preparation and handling:
Without any special sample preparation, all kinds of solid samples are weighed into steel or ceramic sample crucibles (sample mass up to 3 g).
Fully automatic:
Automated and unattended operation is possible by the integrated 89 autosampler and PC-control through Windows®. Furthermore, optional 21 CFR Part 11 compliant software is available.
